About Us

On Call Healthy Living Program

OnCall initially started as an urgent care center, but our emergency trained medical providers quickly saw the need for office-based opioid treatment. OnCall Healthy Living Program was started for individuals struggling with opioid dependence as an outpatient treatment option.

OnCall HLP has been providing office-based opioid and alcohol treatment since 2008. Our comprehensive treatment program utilizes evidence-based protocols to provide up-to-date quality recovery treatment with compassion, understanding and respect. Our team of medical providers and behavioral health professionals work together to provide individual patient-centered medication assisted treatment (MAT) to support sustained recovery.

What is Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)?

MAT is the use of medication, along with therapy and other supports, to help address issues related to alcohol and opioid dependence, including withdrawal, cravings and relapse prevention.

Research shows that combining addiction treatment medications with behavioral therapy is the best way to ensure success for most patients. Treatment approaches that are tailored to each patient’s abuse patterns and any co-occurring medical, psychiatric, and social problems can lead to sustained recovery and life without drug and alcohol abuse.

At OnCall HLP, we believe that opioid dependence is a chronic brain disease. Chronic diseases such as asthma, diabetes, and obesity are best treated through harm reduction. Clean needles are an example of harm reduction for IV drug users. Medication, like buprenorphine, is another facet that can reduce harm in patients with chronic opioid dependence.

Research has also shown that successful treatment of any type of dependence requires a program that combines medical management and behavioral therapy (counseling, intensive outpatient therapy, etc.). Therefore, therapy is a mandatory part of this program. OnCall HLP has two in-house substance abuse certified therapists and offers individual and group therapy sessions.

What is Addiction?

Addiction is a chronic relapsing condition characterized by compulsive alcohol/drug seeking abuse and by long-lasting chemical changes in the brain. Addiction is the same irrespective of whether the drug is alcohol, amphetamines, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, or nicotine. Every addictive substance induces pleasant states or relieves distress. Continued use of the addictive substance induces adaptive changes in the brain that lead to tolerance, physical dependence, uncontrollable craving and, all too often, relapse. Dependence is at such a point that stopping is very difficult and causes severe physical and mental reactions from withdrawal.
